Community Outreach

School Outreach Program

For twenty three years the PAS School Outreach Program has provided the students of Southern Sandoval County a wide variety of performances including music, theatre and dance.  PAS offers programming to all schools in the Bernalillo Public School District, Jemez Public Schools, and Zia Pueblo Schools.  Peanut Butter and Jelly Therapeutic Preschool in Bernalillo is also included.

This outreach program expands children's awareness of and beyond our unique New Mexican culture.  The relationship with the schools begins with the PAS Outreach Coordinator contacting school administrators, sharing information about available programs, notifying them that the performance costs are shared bewteen PAS and the school, and inviting their school to participate.  Schools can choose any program they desire.

Visit our School Program page for more information and an application for your school to complete.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down your hair!

During the 2010-2011 school year, several programs were performed.  Highlighted above in a photo is the storytelling presentation at the Placitas Community Library by Armando Ortega.  This outreach program was partially funded by PAS as part of our outreach program.

The school year was closed out with a spectacular performance at Algodones Elementary School.  See the photo above and read more about this wonderful presentation!

Senior Citizen Tickets

Thanks to a generous grant from Sandoval County, PAS offers free concert tickets each season to senior citizens.  These tickets are made available to the Senior/Community Center program managers in Placitas, Bernalillo, and Peña Blanca where they are distributed to program participants.

Just for Fun!

The Annual Placitas 4th of July Parade

Each year, the Board of Directors and Friends of PAS decorate a float, tune up their instruments, and assemble the Kazoo Philharmonic to serenade the community during the annual Placitas 4th of July Parade.  This annual tradition includes tossing candy to the children as the performers play their best renditions of patriotic tunes, led by our ever-faithful 'semi-conductor'.

While this activity is 'just for fun', it provides another opportunity to reach out to all the residents of Placitas to let them know about PAS and Music and Art in the Foothills.

We hope you'll come and join the fun!
