Woody Duncan is a retired, Middle School art teacher from Kansas who decided to move to Albuquerque four years ago. He and is wife, Frani (of 45 years) have two sons and six grandkids. Three came as a set (triplets). They also have three great-grand sons. Frani makes quilts and Woody paints watercolors. Being retired, he has time to do the stuff he enjoys. He volunteers as a docent at the Albuquerque Museum. Woody’s team of docents give tours for school children twice each month. He is also active in the New Mexico Watercolor Society currently serving as president. From time to time he does workshops for art teachers at state or national conferences. Since 1985, Woody has been driving from Kansas to Taos, New Mexico to paint his watercolors. He loves painting the magical light bouncing off the walls crumbling adobe of New Mexico churches. Another favorite subject are the poppies he grows in his backyard. But most of all, he loves doing watercolors of their triplet grand children. Woody claims that painting what one loves the most, always makes your paintings better. Click on an image to enlarge. Use your browser's back button to return. |

"My watercolors are done in bright
transparent hues on sheets of rough Arches watercolor paper. I love to
put darks into my paintings to help make the colors pop. My subject
matter ranges from New Mexico landscapes and old adobe churches to the
giant red- orange poppies that I grow in our backyard. But my most
favorite subjects are our fantastic triplet grandchildren which I paint
with a passion. I learned watercolor over 30 years ago from my mentor
Matthew Monks who taught me to appreciate my artist’s eyes. |
