A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, Jan M.
Bennett
discovered her love of photography in 1997
when, with two hours free between appointments, she wandered around Old
Town Albuquerque with a simple 35mm camera at high noon. She suddenly
learned the joy of “shopping for photos” -
wandering the streets looking for the unusual shot. Jan then
decided to capture the essence of New Mexico on film exploring the small
villages of New Mexico. Using a 35mm Minolta camera and 100, 200, or 800
speed film, Jan edits her pictures with the camera. She now takes her
camera around the globe and enjoys capturing the culture and sprit of
interesting and unusual locations. The photographs are printed on Kodak
Royal paper and they are archivally framed with acid free cotton rag
mats.
Bennett is currently represented by Art is OK and Company in Albuquerque. Her work is continually showing at the Cibola Arts Council - Double Six Gallery, in Grants, NM; the Old Pass Gallery - Raton Arts Council in Raton, NM; and at the St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in SW Albuquerque. She has had one person shows at the MoRo Gallery and TJ Camera, both in Albuquerque. Click on an image to enlarge. Use your browser's back button to return. |

| Bennett says: | |||
| "When I drove through the small villages of northern New Mexico and noticed the many traditional adobe homes being replaced with mobile homes or pre-fabricated homes, I felt an urgent need to try to catch the spirit of New Mexico before it is replaced and modernized. I now try to capture on film the essence of people and places as I travel around the world." | |||
