Joanna
Morska-Osinska, an accomplished
violinist and soprano, born in Poland, has resided in Albuquerque for
sixteen years. She holds a Master of Arts in violin performance from
Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and won a scholarship to
study in Paris Conservatory with Jean Fournier.She
played violin and sang with the Ars Nova medieval music ensemble, winning a second prize at the
International Festival “Musica Antiqua” in Brugge (Belgium,
1987), recording for radio and appearing on TV.
She
has studied voice in Poland as well as at the University of New Mexico,
under Jane Snow. In 1993/94 she performed as a soloist with the Santa Fe
Opera Mosaics touring New Mexico and participating in the gala
performance on the Santa Fe Opera grounds. Between
1997/1998 Morska-Osinska moved with her family - husband, Professor
Marek Osinski and their two sons - to Tokushima, Japan. She performed
extensively as a chamber musician and soloist and also appeared on radio
and television. In
May, 2001, she was a guest solo soprano with the New Mexico Symphony
Orchestra’s production of Carmina
Burana. In March, 2004, she repeated the part with the Santa
Fe Community Orchestra. Later that year, she performed solo soprano in a benefit concert for Opera
Unlimited in the house of the American painter Wilson Hurley.
Currently, Morska-Osinska
is a member of the Opera Unlimited Company for which she performed in
two operas Chanticleer (title role), and Hansel and Gretel
(Gretel), touring New Mexico. She sang the role of Joan of Arc in the Santa
Fe Pro Musica production of Rock of Angels, written by New
Mexico's Emmy Award composer Gerald Fried. |
