Call for Visual Artists

A call for artists for the 2014-2015 season is now open. Click here for an Adobe .pdf version of the application. The deadline is APRIL 1, 2014. Artists selected by jury will be notified in May, 2014.

This project is made possible in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs and The National Endowment for the Arts.

Dear Friends of the Arts,

I welcome you to our 27th Season, and believe this season will shine as brightly as those of the past.  You probably don't know me, or much about me.  I am not a musician, artist or performer.  But as I walk through my home I see beautiful artwork, and music is a daily part of my life.  Because of that, the Placitas Artists Series has had a prominent presence in my life for many years.  As Nietzsche wrote, "Without music, life would be a mistake".

The concert season this year is an eclectic mix of serious music coming from several directions.  We begin our season in September with Willy Sucre and his friends playing string quartets. This is followed later in the season by Willy teaming with a piano trio, and then he and his friends play piano quintets.  A final concert in May ends the season with cello duo, trio and quintets. Wow! This is not your standard chamber mix!

But that's not all!  Our series includes Jon Nakamatsu, 1997 Van Cliburn Gold Medalist, in October.  We are fortunate in having a world-class pianist come to Placitas. And I'm eager to hear the December concert with the Stu MacAskie Trio teaming up with the David Felberg Quartet - Outpost jazz and pop coupled with classical chamber!

I recall guitar soloists from the past few years, and am really looking forward to this season's extraordinary young, award winning guitar Duo Noire.  Solo saxophone (with accompaniment) is not a common serious music genre, but Ashu is no common musician!  After making his Carnegie debut at age 16, Ashu has won so many awards I won't try to list them - take a look at his bio on our concert page! This concert is sure to be a real treat!

As always, in addition to the concert series, each month you can also enjoy an exquisite exhibit of visual arts.  These juried exhibits showcase the works of New Mexico artists; all artwork is for sale.

I believe we've put together an exemplary and memorable series of concerts this season, thanks to the efforts of the musical program committee and so many others.  There are many people involved as well that make our season exemplary - board members, volunteers, season subscribers, donors, sponsors, advertisers, community members and fine-music aficionados - on behalf of the Board I thank you all and welcome you once again to our 27th season of beautiful music and art!
